What is Intel Optane Memory..??

Most probably, you have heard something called Optane Memory though you don’t know what that is actually. Therefore, I am going to simply explain what the Optane Memory is in this article. But,I think that it is better to talk about the storage of a computer system before talking about the Optane Memory. It will be helpful to you to understand about the Optane Memory.

In talking about storage of a computer system,there are two parts of memories in a computer system.Theya are

1.Volatile Memory
2.Non Volatile Memory

Volatile memory means it keeps data in the memory untill the electricity available. But,not volatile memory is not like that. It keeps data though the electricity ia not available. So, volatile memory is nothing but it is the RAM of a computer. As well as, non volatile memory is nothing but it is Hard of a computer. Thought the volatile is not capable of keeping data in the memory when electricity is not available, it is the fastest memory among these to parts of memories. It is capable of supplying data to the CPU very rapidly. Non volatile memory is much slower than the volatile memory. As well as, the volatile memory is expensive than the non volatile memory. That’s why we have to still use limited memory sizes of RAMs.

Now, let’s talk about the Optane Memory. This Optane Memory concept was introduced by the intel in the 2015. Intel introduced this joinig with Micron memory manufacturing company. They used 3D XPOINT technology to this. In this technology, memory cells that have a huge density can be packed in a small space. Not only that but also Optane Memory is faster than a SSD memory. It is close to 10th mutiple of the speed of SSD memory. As well as, Optane Memory keeps data when the electricity is not available. So, Optane Memory is a non volatile memory. Though this is faster than SSD, this is not faster than a RAM. Intel company is not using this as a storage device. Intel is using this as a cache device. Optane Memory is supports only to intel 7th gen kaby lake or later platforms or intel 200 chipset pr later chipsets. As well as, Optane Memory can’t be used a drive. If you have several hard disks, it connects only with the hard that contain the OS. Optane Memory is capable of supplying data to RAM from the hard very rapidly. It helps to computer to boot up quickly and load applications quickly. When we play a game it helps to load geme levels quickly and it increase the responsiveness of the game. Most important thing is that, this is not a technology that replace tha RAM.
